Currently,the cultivation of core qualities in primary and middle school students was proposed,and Lv Chuan han,a professor in Gui zhou normal university,put forward an educational theory-How to think,how to do and how to express should be taught through mathematics teaching(hereinafter referred to as "Three hows").Followed the theory,"Three hows" should be combined with teaching to cultivate students’ core qualities.The author did a deep research in eighth grade students about how they think when solving linear function problems.The thesis explores the relationship between "How to think" theory and classroom teaching in an attempt to promote students’ thinking ability in mathematics.In the thesis,three classes students from the Tenth Middle school of Guiyang were selected as test objects.From definition of the linear function,the use of the formula,the use of images and nature,and the function model and students’ self reflection and summary,the thesis studies how the students think when in comes to the linear function,using the method of literature analysis,questionnaire investigation,interviewing and related research methods.Through analyzing teachers’ interview,a quiz of linear function,the results of the questionnaire analysis,and the division of student learning outcomes under the SOLO taxonomy level,conclusions were summed up as follows:(1)Eighth graders are differed in mathematical thinking.In general,the overall students did great in understanding the definition of a linear function and the use of the formula,the results students scored under the SOLO taxonomy is conceptual,Student did great in the image and nature,half of all students can think conceptually,However,in terms of the model use,although the proportion of students in each level structure is more balanced,but the majority of low student scores.Summarizing and reflection on the topic is the worst part that students handle,they are mostly under single point structure level.(2)Based on the results analysis and how they express themselves,how students think can be learned.Through the study,eighth graders have the mathematical ability in thinking,but the development of it is not ideal.So,in order to achieve the goal of cultivating students’ core qualities,teaching strategies and designs were made according to "three hows" theory.(3)Based on the SOLO classification theory,evaluation system of students is created.Evaluating study results of the linear function and analyze it to understand how students think during the process,combining with teachers’ interviews,the quiz and the SPSS to analyze the investigation to verify the rationality of it.
