A Comparative Study Of Subject Education Function On Chinese Mainland,Hong Kong And Taiwan High School Geography Textbook | Posted on:2019-01-23 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | Country:China | Candidate:Y F Feng | Full Text:PDF | GTID:2417330548973639 | Subject:Curriculum and pedagogy | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | China is currently under a critical period of intensifying reform of elementary education.In 2017,the high school geography curriculum standards whose primary guidance was geographical core literacies were officially released.The function of geography education is not only teaching geography knowledge,but also promoting people’s well-rounded development to serve the society.On the occasion of the upcoming revision of the geography textbook,the article selected the high school geography textbook from Chinese mainland,Hong Kong and Taiwan as research objects and studied the educational function of geography subject among these three places by applying literature review,content analysis and comparative study.It was observed by applying literature review that both national and international text books focused only on the formulation and content,which was even obvious when applying the comparative study of the text books.They were less likely focusing on the study of educational function of the text books and presented to be fragmented and not systematic.Based on the relevant theories of structural functionalism,humanistic learning theory and the International Charter for Geography Education,this article performed a content analysis on the material of high school geography textbooks from mainland China,Hong Kong and Taiwan,and came up with an educational function system of high school geography textbook which includes 3 primary,9 secondary and 26 tertiary functions,possessing dynamic generative and hierarchical structure.This article summarized the features of the educational function system of the high school geography textbooks from these three places,explored the similarities and differences among them during the comparative research,pointed out the insufficiencies of the practicalities and timeliness of geographic knowledge,targeted cultivation of geographic skills,cultivation of the ecological perspectives,and resource of civic education,and noted the correlation between the difference of the educational function of geography and the according development of the social,economic,cultural,global changes and geography subject.To conclude,based on the advantages of the geographic educational function of these three places,this article propose the following recommendations for the upcoming amendment of geography textbook in mainland China: 1.In terms of geographic knowledge,the new text books should advance with times,enhance the practicality and improve the integrity;2.Add some learning sections related to improving geographic skills,especially geographic practice skills;3.Associate the actual environment to capture geographic perspectives and strengthen the cultivation of geographic perspectives;4.Infiltrate geography with life education and strengthen the training of disaster prevention skills;5.Allocate the content of local geography and international understanding reasonably based on practical needs. | Keywords/Search Tags: | Chinese mainland Hong Kong and Taiwan, Geography textbook of high school, Geographic educational function, Comparative study | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
