Abstract/Summary:
As an important event in the course of women’s life, mate selection has an important impact on women’s life.meanwhile,as a favorable factor of women’s autonomy, mate selection is an important event in the study of women’s liberation. As a common behavior of human society, mate selection has been marked by the times in the long history.we can understand the impact of specific social structure on human mate selection behavior and explore the development of women themselves through the research and analysis of The change of women’s autonomy in mate selection.Academic research on the autonomy of mate selection mainly focuses on the following aspects:analysis on the changes of mate selection and its causes under the influence of reform and opening-up;research on the problems of mate selection and marriage and love problems of rural youth and study on the vicissitudes of mate selection.on the whole, the research on women’s autonomy in mate selection has drawn the following views:the autonomy of mate selection standards and views are obviously enhanced with the development and progress of the society, the reasons are given by scholars from the aspects of economic system, family model and culture, and the contradictions about mate selection are analyzed reasonably. However, the existing research has the following shortcomings:First, the perspective of research is too macro, lacking of specific analysis framework leads to the lack of in-depth research on women’s autonomy in mate selection;Second, the research is mainly quantitative,multi-purpose specific indicators are used to analyze women’s autonomy so that lacking of research from the perspective of the parties themselves,in addition, the analysis of the age changes of choosing spouse autonomy is not deep enough. As a kind of behavior of the main body, the autonomy of choosing a mate is embodied in the process.Only from the microcosmic process of choosing the spouse to study the autonomy of the actor we can really understand the changes on women’s autonomy in mate selection.Based on this, taking xi village as an example.Using research methods of in-depth interviews to study the changes of mate selection autonomy of the three generations of women in xi village. On the basis of Amartya sen’s theory of feasible ability, which is subject-oriented research on women’s issues and Giddens’s idea of interpreting power from ability, this paper analyzes the differences of women’s self-determination of mate selection in each generation from the perspective of resources. This paper divides resources into internal resources and external resources and external resources refer to social and cultural norms.External resources refer to education, regional mobility and employment.Through the study, the following conclusions are drawn. The three generation of women in the xi village has an upward trend in terms of autonomy.Parental woman are the weak mate autonomy under the weak ability. The formation of this pattern is mainly due to The limited resources. The social and cultural norms have not become the external resources for the ability to increase. The main manifestation is the restriction of the traditional "male superiority and female inferiority" to the parental female behavior;the low productivity and the restricted domicile management bound the parental generation to the land. The lack of internal and external resources leads to the transformation of resources. On this basis, the parental generation show a very low sense of autonomy in the process of choosing a spouse.Lacking of discourse power in the whole process of choosing a spouse,The decision of marriage is in the mastery of the parents. The pattern of mate selection for parental generation is "arrange a match by parents’ order and on the matchmaker’s word",offspring women has formed the stronger mate selection autonomy under strong ability.Autonomy has been improved compared with that of parents, thanks to the open and loose social, economic and cultural changes. The development of the whole social culture has become the external resource for the improvement of women’s autonomy.Under this influence, the female labor of the generation broke through the single agricultural production, got access to wage income. The ability to make money has improved and also improved there own status in the family. The emergence of new social and cultural things inspires the improvement of women’s self-consciousness to some extent,Due to the limited role of education, there is no significant influence on the autonomy of offspring women. In short,The increase of resources has become a booster to help women transform their resources. In the process of choosing a spouse, the self-consciousness of the offspring women has been improved. They have there own ideas of choosing a spouse and have limited communication with the male,Except that, they have the power to say no to the young men who dislike and there is a "bargaining"situation in the whole process.grandchildren women’s ability is prominent under the premise of abundant resources, and their mate selection is strong.Social and cultural factors as external resources provide good external conditions for the improvement of women’s autonomy.Open and tolerant social culture has enabled the idea of equality between men and women gradually into the heart. The education has received the support of there families and geographical mobility has become a common feature among grandchildren women. In short, the rich internal and external resources shaped the strong autonomy of the grandchildren. For mate selection,It is the common experience of women of grandchildren to avoid their parents’ free love in their youth.Using a variety of ways to fight with there parents is an outstanding manifestation of strong autonomy in the process of finding a mate.In addition,The current three generations of women are in the late, middle and early stages of the marriage relationship and autonomy has its own characteristics:Parental women continue the weak autonomy of the early marriage; The prominence of marriage independence of offspring women;and the abnormal development of marital autonomy of grandchildren women.
