The chemical concept is an important part of chemical knowledge and plays animportant role in chemistry learning. In the study of chemistry concepts, studentsoften have a lot of alternative framework, which affects the students' understandingof chemical concepts.Very recently, many research efforts have been devoted to using aconceptual scale to measure students' level of thinking and understanding. Moreover,by consulting the literature, there is no found conceptual scale on the subject ofreaction heat.In this regard,it is of great practical significance to investigate students' understanding and alternative framework for reaction heat, and which revealsstudents' problems in understanding this concept.Encouraged by these findings, the specific issues studied in this paper are:collecting students' alternative framework in the concept of reaction heat byconsulting the literature.According to Bloom's Educational Target Taxonomy,SOLO Taxonomy, and Learning Ability Theory,a division model of the understanding level of chemical concepts was constructed.Afterwards,it analyzes the content of reaction heat in the curriculum standards and teaching materials, finds relevant concepts of reaction heat, and draws a concept map of related concepts of reaction heat.Simultaneously, under the guidance of the constructed conceptual understanding model,we construct the level of understanding of the concept of reaction heat. The development of the Reactive Heat Concept Scale is the core part of this paper.First of all, based on the analysis of the students' alternative framework and curriculum standards,“the initial reaction heat concept scale-a” was developed. This scale was used to test 357 students in 4 schools and use winsteps 3.72.0 software to process the data.According to the results of the data processing, the problem items are modified to form a formal “reaction heat concept scale-b”.Secondly,for the revised formal scale,434 high school students from different regions and different types were selected for testing. After the data analysis, the indicators of the scale met the statistical requirements. The analysis of the test data of “the Reactive Heat Concept Scale-b” revealed that the current level of understanding of the reaction heat concept of high school students is mostly concentrated on Level 1 and Level 2,and there is a lot of alternative framework in the reaction heat.In addition,in the understanding of reaction heat concept, the students in the grade are not significantly higher than those in the second grade. Finally, the contents of the conceptual scale-b are explained in detail, and corresponding teaching suggestions are proposed based on the students' answering questions. The novelty of this research is to construct a theoretical model of the understanding level of chemical concepts.According to this model, the understanding level of the reaction heat concept is divided, and "the Reaction Heat Concept Scale" is developed. After testing, data analysis and project correction,a reaction heat concept scale with good quality and able to measure students' understanding was obtained.
