Geography curriculum standards of compulsory education started in 2011 has expounded three concepts for modern geography education: “study the useful geography in daily life”,“ study the geography useful for students' development ”,“ construct an open geography curriculum ”.There is overwhelming research on how to implement the course standard concept at a time.However,it's not easy to put the concepts for modern geography education into practice by traditional teaching methods.Meanwhile,as one of the products of geographic information science,Google Earth(Google Earth)6.0 has been updated in 2011,whose friendly interface has brought more convenience for people,so it was quickly expanded and applied in geography education.A lot of research show that Google Earth has intuitive nature,simulation ability and strong interactivity,so if Google Earth is applied as a new assistant teaching method,it will play an eminent role in realizing modern educational concept.Based on previous studies,this paper finds that Google Earth tends to the pattern of “teacher-guided,students-accepted” in common geography teaching of middle school,which limits to the teacher's use for this software.In the teaching practice with Google Earth,the author finds that the assistant function of Google Earth in geography teaching should not be confined to teacher's operation.If Google Earth is applied into the whole process of geography teaching and learning,it will be of great help for implementing modern geography education concept.In this paper,an action research approach is employed to explore the advantages and disadvantages on teaching effect brought by different operational modes of Google Earth in junior middle school geography curriculum.The operational modes include: Google Earth operated by teacher in class,Google Earth operated by teacher and students in class,students' independent study by adopting Google Earth to report learning result.The study finds that all the three modes have remarkable effect on improving students' interest in geography study,improving classroom concentration and participation,breaking the difficulty of spatial orientation.Meanwhile,the higher participation the mode has,thebetter class extension effect will be achieved,and the cultivation of students' ability and the implementation of the curriculum standard concept will be more effective.But this kind of mode has a higher demand for hardware condition and students' ability,which makes the implementation more difficult.So schools with different enrollments and conditions can choose feasible operational mode of Google Earth according to their own conditions.Through these research,this paper hopes to provide some useful reference for middle school geography teaching in the operational mode of Google Earth.
