Since 21st century,many countries have updated concept of talents and talent cultivation.The USA government proposed a program on 21~stt Century Talent Skills Cooperation,including the ability to think,to make decisions,to solve complex,open-ended and interdisciplinary problems and the ability of innovation,communication and cooperation.The outline of the national medium and long term development plan from 2010to 2020 also attaches importance on the cultivation of talents'problem-solving skills.Scholars explain problem-solving skills from three parts,including problem,problem-solving,and problem-solving skill.On the aspect of problem,scholars mainly explain its definition and stress the individual consciousness of problem.In the scholars'opinions,problem-solving is featured by purpose,cognition and sequentiality.So far there are many theories on the problem-solving process,factors of problem-solving,and problem-solving strategies.About problem-solving skill,researches are made on intelligence structure,memory capacity,psychological charateristics,etc.AdoptingPISA2003Problem-solvingSkills Assessmentas questionnaire,this study aims to study the status quo of problem-solving skills of junior school students in Guangzhou City.Conclusions made from this study are as follows:(1)Junior school students in Guangzhou have good abilities on reading,reasoning and analysis;(2)Junior school students in Guangzhou have good mathematical literacy and strong abilities to abserve;(3)Junior school students in Guangzhou have strong abilities to solve the problems related to school case where they are able to seize many details;(4)Junior school students in Guangzhou are not familiar to the case out of school,which leads to failure to understand the problems not related with school,failure to grab the key points of problems and failure to solve problems;(5)Junior school students in Guangzhou are able to realize relationship between variables in general problems but find difficult to understand those problems containing many variables;(6)Junior school students in Guangzhou are lack of elaborate and thorough thinking which are required in the whole process of problem-solving,including understanding problems,expressing problems,communicating problems,solving problems and introspecting problems;(7)Junior school students in Guangzhou show their independent and creative thinking when solving problems,but there are still a lot for them to improve their abilities to apply knowledge imparted in school.In the last part,this study provides some suggestions to educational administrative departments,schools and students.
