Media Construction Of The Issue Of Sexual Assault Children And The Impact Of Parents Cognition

In recent years,more and more cases of sexual abuse of children have been exposed by people.Sexual-abused children is a phenomenon which is related to humanity ethics and legal morality,challenges human public order and good customs of the society.As a social observer,the media is an important source of information for the audiences to perceive the outside world.When the media reconstruct the reality of sexual assault on children,it’s also constructing the cognition of the audiences.When we face the troublesome problem of sexual assault children,it’s particularly necessary for us to study on media construction of issue of sexual assault children.This study selects three medium reports on sexual abuse of children from People’s Daily online,thepaper.cn and sina.com from 2017 to 2019.Firstly,it analyzes how the three media construct the issue of sexual abuse of children,and what content it constructs,and what cultural significance it contains.Secondly,it explores the influence of media construction on parents’ cognition of sexual assault on children.Finally,the author proposes improvement strategies for the consequences,so as to improve the effect of the media in constructing the reality of sexual assault on children,improve and adjust the cognition of parents’ cognition,and protect children and make they grow happy and healthy.The paper analyzed the reports on sexual-abused children in the perspective of historical,social,cultural theory,put the problem of sexual-abused children into macroscopic social background,drew the outline of the reports on sexual-abused children in form,presented the element of sexual-abused children phenomenon,including the place of sexual abuse,sexual assault groups,as well as the victims of sexual assault to reveal the situation of sexual-abused children by media construction,explored social concept behind the phenomenon of sexualabused children in culture.This study employed text analysis method,found the three medium’ report have the characteristics of centralized reporting in time,marginalization of media discourse in reporting space,diversification of reporting styles,homogeneity of frame structure in the form construction of topics;In terms of content construction,the three medium reproduced the places of sexual assault where it mainly involves children’s activities,the groups of sexual assault who mainly are acquaintances,and the victims of sexual assault who mainly are girls;In terms of cultural construction,media construction of issue of sexual assault children leads to differences in reporting between urban and rural,stigmatization of specific social groups,catalyzing the emergence of victim-blaming culture,and the separation of sexual assault injuries from other injuries.After analyzing the content of the text from outward appearance to the inner essence,the author conducted a parents’ cognition investigation on the problem of sexual abuse of children.The results of data analysis show that the parents have stereotypes on the cognition of sexual assault behavior,and there are some biases in the cognition of the definition of sexual assault behavior and the means of sexual assault under the influence of the media construction;However,the parents’ cognition about the victims of sexual assault breaks through the reality of media construction,and avoids the bad influence of media construction;As for the groups of sexual assault,parents have formed a more objective and rational cognition.In general,there are still some deficiencies in parents’ cognition of sexual assault on children.which are caused by the presentation of media issues,the limitation of parents’ individual cognition,social and cultural factors,legal system and sex education.By analyzing the dilemma of media’s choice of news value and media’s ethical constraints,the limitations of parents’ own cognition,the traditional cultural constraint of “Domestic shame should not be made public”,the absence of legal system and the absence of sex education curriculum,to reveal those causes of deficiencies in parents’ cognition of sexual assault on children.In view of the causes of parents’ insufficient cognition,this paper suggests that the media should present the issue of sexual assault on children from multiple angles,and correctly guide the public opinion on the issue of sexual-abused children.Parents should get rid of a “Domestic shame should not be made public” cultural concept,and obtain education information against sexual assault actively and rationally.Society should perfect the relevant legal policy.The school shall start scientific and comprehensive sex education curriculums,to improve the dilemma of media,make up for the guardian’s deficiency,break away from the stigma of uncultured traditional culture,break the regression of law,and shoulder the responsibility of education,reconstruct the cognition of sexual abuse child phenomenon,and provide escort for children’s healthy growth.
