On May 12th,2018,the International Symposium on Disaster Social Work for the 10th Anniversary of the Wenchuan Earthquake was held in Chengdu. The 5·12 Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008 re-entered people’s vision. The 5·12 Wenchuan earthquake, which happened in 2008,was the most destructive disaster since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. At that time, the government did its utmost to rescue the victims. In this disaster reconstruction, besides anti-earthquake soldiers, medical staff, psychological counselors and volunteers, social workers also participated in the rescue and made great contributions:the establishment of social work service station, the intervention of trauma and the recovery of survivors’ social networks. The disaster reconstruction cannot ignore their dedication.Based on walk-long interviews,a qualitative study using symbolic interactionism was conducted with the aim of examining the social workers’ memories and reflection about this earthquake reconstruction. This dissertation used ’Person-Relation-Experience-Event’ pattern to discuss the four themes:①the memories of reconstruction;②the memories of trauma;③the reflections of disaster and death;④the reflections of personal and professional development. The results of this study indicated that social workers who had offered social work services in Dujiangyan ten years ago was in different relations when recalling and reflecting on this experience, thus they had different experience and feelings, which also made them have different states.Based on the results, this dissertation proposed some efforts from four aspects to accelerate the development of disaster social work:disaster social work practice, survivors’trauma, issues of disaster and death, development of disaster social workers and disaster social work.
