Dong Zhongshu is one of the most important philosophers in the history of Chinese philosophy, and one of the most important successors and developers of the Confucian thought system.Dong Zhongshu established a strict and complete system of political ethics with the theory of heaven and man's induction as the philosophical basis of his thought, the theory of three cardinal principles and five permanent principles as the ethical basis, and the theory of unity as the value pursuit.Dong Zhongshu's political ethics thought takes the establishment of kingly politics as the goal, and he attaches great importance to the philosophy thought of the relationship between man and nature, which provides the philosophy foundation for his political ethics thought;his "three principles and five principles" theory of social order ethics shows the original norms of his political ethics thought,in which the thought of "the supremacy of monarchy" and "the people-oriented" embodies its value demands. At the same time,in his political and ethical thought system, the thought of "heaven man induction" provides a legal basis for the monarch to establish a regime and rule the subjects. This paper discusses from the following aspects.First of all,it discusses the background and origin of Dong Zhongshu's political and ethical thought. When the Taoist thought can't meet the needs of the times,Dong Zhongshu's political and ethical thought came into being. Its political and ethical thought is based on inheriting and carrying forward the excellent thoughts of the pre Qin Confucianism, and then absorbing and blending other thoughts. At the same time,it also makes a brief summary and analysis of Dong Zhongshu's personal life.Secondly,it discusses the main content of Dong Zhongshu's political ethics, which includes the theory of Wang Dao,the thought of three principles and five norms, the thought of unification, combs the philosophical basis and political objectives of Dong Zhongshu's political ethics, and summarizes the main characteristics of Dong Zhongshu's political ethics. Finally,on the one hand,it distilled the cream of ancient traditional philosophy in its political ethics. This paper sums up the historical value of this thought in ancient times, and the reference value for the construction of political civilization and national governance in the new era.At the same time,it also analyzes the limitations of this thought as a theory of safeguarding the interests of the ruling class in the feudal society.Only by treating it dialectically can we better provide a strong support for the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics today. It is worth noting that under the social background at that time,Dong Zhongshu's political ethics thought complied with the needs of the times and the rulers, and played a crucial role in promoting the development of politics, culture and economy from the pre-Qin to the Western Han Dynasty. However, many scholars at all times and in all over the world have been critical of Dong Zhongshu's political and ethical thoughts. In this regard, the author believes that it is unscientific for us to criticize the irrationality of Dong Zhongshu's political and ethical thoughts in today's environment. The study of a person and his thoughts should be carried out in the historical environment at that time.Dong Zhongshu's political and ethical thought catered to the needs of the monarch in the historical background of the Western Han Dynasty, which made Confucianism replace the legalist theory and Taoist Huang Lao's skill, and become a new social universal thought accepted by the public.By combing Dong Zhongshu's political and ethical thought,we find that although this thought has its limitations,it can still provide experience in maintaining social stability and development and political management for future rulers at that time, and also has important reference value for the construction of political civilization in today's society.
