The role of social media based on the development of the Internet has become more and more prominent. With the breakthrough of digital technology, social media not only has a great influence on people's social life, but also gradually gets rid of a single social function. In the political field, the influence of social media is also gaining importance. In the political field, the influence of social media is getting more and more attention..Social media is not only a propaganda tool in party elections, but also changes the candidate's election mode, which profoundly affects citizens' political participation, political communication, political democracy and political equality. In 2008,Obama successfully used the social media platform to conduct political communication, mobilize and raise funds, establish a database, and win the election campaign. In 2012,he increased his investment in social media and began to use his analysis and use of data to win a winning streak. In 2016,Trump's skillful use of social media, the campaign team to make full use of big data, especially social data to locate, successfully won the election victory, even known as the "Twitter" president. It can be seen that the process of the three-time US elections in 2008-2016 is also a process of continuous maturity of social media and big data applications. In the digital age campaign, social media has become an effective platform for the Democratic and Republican parties to communicate with voters' programs and policies, profoundly changing American politics. But the impact is good or bad, which is a question worth pondering.Based on the evolution of the relationship between Western political party elections and social media driven by the Internet, this study takes the three-year US elections in 2008-2016 as an example to explore the methods and measures of using social media in Western political party elections.Investigate the impact of social media on party election politics and how to deal with the relationship between political parties and big data.Research shows that the use of social media in electoral politics can shape the politicalimage of political parties and candidates, reduce the cost of propaganda, promote the development of democracy, expand the political space of small parties, and rely on social media to carry out political communication and enhance the supervisory function of opposition parties. And so on.However, there are certain disadvantages in the application of social media. For example, the big party is still the same, the digital differentiation is the impression of reality differentiation;the voters are regarded as measurable “dataized”individuals;social media weakens the electoral function of political parties;information is socializing The easy sharing in the media has also weakened the supervision function of the media, and social media has increasingly become the mouthpiece of politicians.
