International immigration and international trade are two important aspects of globalization.Over the past half century, the scale of both has expanded rapidly, and more and more research has been done on the relationship between the two.Since Melitz(2003)constructed the trade theory framework of enterprise heterogeneity, the development trend of academic research has gradually shifted from the macro level to the micro level, and the dual margins of trade has become the focus of the research on international trade. This paper focuses on the theme of the impact of international migration on international trade from the perspective of dual margins, and conducts empirical studies by using the panel data from China to OECD countries from 2000 to 2015.We also decompose China’s exports to OECD countries by using the method provided by Hummels and Klenow(2005).For the intensive margin and the extensive margin, the impact of the immigration network on the two is examined separately. This paper firstly reviews the previous literature on international migration, the dual margins of international trade and the former’s influence on the latter. On this basis,we describe the stylized facts of international migration and international trade and the dual margins. Then, under the theoretical framework of the gravity model, the econometric model of this paper is constructed. With the international immigrant as the core explanatory variable,we select the control variable with reference to the existing literature.Besides the baseline regression,we also do the robustness check by replacing the data of the core explanatory variables. The study draws the following conclusions.First, due to the demonstration effect of immigration preferences, immigrants have a greater impact on the extensive margin than on the intensive margin.Second, the impact of immigration stocks on the dual margins is greater than the impact of immigration flows.Third, immigrants moving to Europe have a greater impact on the dual margins than other continents. The greater the cultural gap between the host country and the home country, the more significant the trade growth effect brought by immigration.Based on the above research conclusions, this paper proposes the following recommendations on how to use the immigration network to stimulate export growth.First, create a demonstration effect of consumer preferences.Second, establish a long-term effective immigration network.Third, carefully choose the country of destination. In view of the shortcomings of this paper, the further study on the impact of international migration on the dual margins of international trade can be polished in the following dimentions.First, expand the scope of the sample.Second, deepen the research problem.Third, refine the sample data.
