The current wave of populism is sweeping across Europe and US,with a number of right-wing populist parties in Europe, including the Alternative for Germany and the Rassemblement National, beginning to emerge as political stars and even form part of the cabinet.Britain,a model of representative democracy, has not been immune to this wave of populism. The rise of UK Independence Party and the Brexit vote were notable events, and are facilitated by many factors, among which populism is especially important.Although UKIP has been in decline for a variety of reasons over the past few years and is unlikely to recover, the factors that contributed to its rise have not disappeared from British society. The rise of UKIP has been driven by issues such as immigration,Euroscepticism, the widening gap between rich and poor as a result of globalisation and public mistrust of mainstream politics. The impact of populism on British politics is profound, especially when the current deal with the European Union has been unable to be approved by the British parliament, and the EU has finally agreed to delay the brexit deadline for a few more months. The way in which Britain will ultimately leave the European Union will have a huge influence on,not just UK but also on EU and the world.Populism will continue to play a big role in the final months of the deadline as all sides of British society continue to wrangle over Brexit.
