Empirical Research On The Relationship Between Social Capital And Government Trust

Over the past 40 years since the reform and opening-up,China has witnessed tremendous political,economic and cultural development.One of the most striking changes is that People's material wealth is greatly satisfied,but at the same time,the development of society also brings great changes to people's ideas and values.One of them is trust in government.Because of various social conflicts,malignant events,food and drug security crisis,official corruption,public figures tax evasion and other similar incidents have been exposed frequently by the media,people's trust in government organizations tend to be weaken.accordingly,residents lack of sense of security,fairness and happiness.Among all kinds of social contradictions,the relationship between the government and the public becomes the primary contradiction,and it is also an important link to solve other social contradictions.Therefore,how to improve people's trust in government organizations is an important topic urgently to be studied at this stage.This paper conduct a filed study in four districts of NingBo.According to the actual situation of the area under investigation,we use the five-point assignment method of trust for reference to measure and investigate the government trust of contemporary residents,and apply SPSS 19.0 to analyze the survey data..We investigate the influencing factors of residents'government(including five levels of government,namely central government,provincial government,prefectural government,county government and township government)trust from the perspective of social capital(including individual capital and collective capital).The findings are as follows:the trust level of NingBo's residents is not high in general,and the trust level is distributed in an inverted pyramid;there are some facts have significant positive effects on the trust of government,like interpersonal trust,the number of community participation,the number of relationship networks and the perception of social equity;citizens' political participation has a significant impact on grass-roots government trust;the degree of official corruption has a significant negative impact on government trust.In order to improve the residents' level of government trust,this paper puts forward some countermeasures and proposals from the government's perspective based on the existing research and the above conclusions.Firstly,it is important to create a harmonious interpersonal environment to improve the social trust of strangers and general trust.Secondly,the government need to maintain social fairness on employment,education,pension and other aspects and then improve residents' perception of social equity.Thirdly,the government expand the orderly political participation of citizens moderately;Finally,it is necessary to fight corruption and create a incorruptible government,and so on.
