After the end of the Cold War,the structure of political parties in Italy has undergone tremendous changes. Some traditional mainstream parties have changed their flags or withdrawn. At the same time, many new political parties have emerged in Italy, especially the Northern League and the Five-Star Movement Party with the characteristics of populism.Populist parties are basically same in organizational structure, political style, and political orientation.First,by analyzing the main body and specific actions of populist parties, the characteristics of populist parties are summarized:the grassroots of the populist party’s mass basis, direct simplification of political style, and the rebelliousness of the current system of the actions of the populist party and its strong organizational leadership in actual organizational structure. After defining the two populist parties in Italy by defining the characteristics of the party, this paper systematically sorts out Italy’s new political parties and elections, the development of populist parties, the agenda and adjustment of political parties and the voters basis. The predecessor of the Northern League of Italy was the Lombard League, which was formed on the basis of regional alliances. The Five Star Movement was established in 2009.Italian populist parties have risen rapidly in the new media era by participating in political elections, social movements, etc, and have become the focus of attention in Italy. The policy propositions of populist parties are not static. As the entire environment changes, they constantly adjust their own policy ideas and attitudes to seek votes and expand their influence at different times. The ideological claims of the Northern League political parties have experienced federalism and extreme separatism, and then advocated decentralization reform. The political ideas of the Five Star Movement Party are mainly anti-establishment,anti-EU and anti-Euro,anti-foreign immigration and specific social governance policies. Finally, this paper further analyzes the roots and influence of the rise of populist parties. In the context of the post-Cold War and the 2008 financial crisis and the European debt crisis, the economic recovery of Western European countries is difficult and the mainstream political party’s have democratic deficit, political elites cannot represent the interests of voters, the influx of immigrants in the society, the growing disappointment of voters and the promotion of new media technologies in the digital age have all contributed to the rise of Italian populist parties. These anti-establishment and anti-bureaucratic populist parties seized the opportunities and put forward the guidelines of the voters’ psychology, and then they obtained a large amount of public support and participated in political integration into the main government through various political activities and social movements. The rise of Italian populist parties will have a violent impact on the Italian political landscape, affecting European social trends, including the people’s challenges and opposition to Western representative democracy, the emergence of religious extremism and exclusionism and will have an important impact on the development of European integration and the EU.
