Research On Culture Cold War Strategy Implemented In Thailand By Truman Administration

Foreign cultural propaganda is one of the important means to oppose Soviet communism during the Cold War in the United States.However,the current study on the implementation of the Cultural Cold War policy on Southeast Asia in this historical period has not yet been systematic.This article mainly studies the Cultural Cold War policy of the United States in Thailand during the Truman administration.In view of the Truman administration’s research on the cause,policy making and implementation of the Cultural Cold War policy in Thailand,it does not deny the importance of political,economic and military means in the diplomatic decision-making process.Instead,it hopes to consider cultural propaganda elements in combination with other factors to see more complete vein of U.S.foreign policy during this period.Studying the role played by cultural propaganda during the Cold War in the U.S.foreign policy is of great significance for understanding the post-Cold War era and the U.S.policy on overseas cultural propaganda.This paper consists of three large chapters:The first chapter analyzes the background and reasons of the Truman administration’s Cultural Cold War policy on Thailand.Mainly from the characteristics of the U.S.policy toward Thailand before 1949,and the U.S.policy adjustment in Thailand after the Cold War spread to Southeast Asia.A series of changes as the situation in Asia the cold war after 1949,the Soviet union to strengthen the global anti-American propaganda and to the spread of communism in southeast Asia,the founding of new China to the impact of the Asian region,the characteristics of the Thai traditional culture,these are to the United States on Thailand’s culture has a great influence on the policy of the Cold War.Chapter two expounds the goal and approach of the Truman administration’s Culture Cold War policy towards Thailand.The objectives of the Truman administration’s Cultural Cold War policy to Thailand are outlined from three aspects:maintaining domestic stability in Thailand,safeguarding US interests in Southeast Asia,and curbing communism.The Truman administration’ s approach to implement a Cultural Cold War policy in Thailand is mainly through the representative organizations of the U.S.government official agency-United States Information Service(USIS)and the non-governmental organization-the Committee for a Free Asia(CFA).The purpose of the United States’implementation of a cultural foreign policy toward Thailand is mainly to further obtain the trust of the Thai government in the United States and the goodwill of the Thai public in the United States;to assist Thailand and to narrow the relationship between Thailand and the United States in order to counter Soviet expansion in the region.To maximize the help of the ordinary people in Thailand to realize the benefits of enjoying modern technological progress.The third chapter discusses the Truman administration’s implementation of the Cultural Cold War policy in Thailand.Respectively from the United States the use of strong religious atmosphere of Thailand for the anti-communist propaganda,the voice of America broadcast propaganda effect,international education and folk cultural exchange the Truman administration are discussed the concrete application of the Cultural Cold War policy in Thailand.During the Truman administration,foreign cultural propaganda was an important part of American foreign policy.In Thailand,the United States USES a variety of cultural propaganda way,its purpose is to serve America’s global strategic interests,promoting the culture and improve the national image in the heart of Thailand,through international education and exchange of folk culture,promote the mutual understanding between the two countries.The fourth chapter evaluates the Cultural Cold War policy implemented by the Truman administration in Thailand.Firstly,the influence of the Cultural Cold War policy on Thailand was analyzed by the "westernization" policy and the influence of American culture on the Thai people.Secondly,in the southeast Asia regional perspective,examining why Thailand is the important object in the implementation of the cultural policy of the Cold War in the region,and the United States to Thailand culture on the implementation of the policy of the Cold War have what kind
