The Taiwan Authorities And Korean War

Four or five decades on behalf of the twentieth century,the United States under the pattern of the Cold War,pulled up the red alert to the Soviet Union worldwide,and the antagonism between the two camps of capitalism and socialism constitutes the basis of Cold War history research.While during this period,the internal fission in China,the subversion of the Kuomintang regime and the outbreak of Korean War prompted the United States to focus on East Asia in expanding the capitalist camp,and the interactions with the Taiwan authorities became an indispensable part of the study of the Cold War pattern in East Asia.At that time,the Kuomintang regime in Mainland China was on the verge of collapse,and not only there existed economic and political chaos on the island,but also the threats of Communist Party's military of China at any time.The United States,who once had vigorously assisted the Kuomintang regime,chose to take a distance from Taiwan and waited for the current situation to settle.The Taiwan authorities,who may be isolated by the international community,attempted to construct the "Far East Anti-Communist Alliance" with the South Korean government for being supported from The United States.Shortly thereafter,the Korean War broke out,and the Taiwan authorities used the respite time to reconnect with the United States,seizing the opportunities and turning the corner.To further cooperate with the US,the Taiwan authorities,during the war period,launched military assistance of South Korea three times from the "Defend Taiwan","Unite America" and "Counter-attack Mainland" three standpoints in order to participate in the Korean War.Although aiding South Korea did not succeed,as a "bystander" of the war,the Taiwan authorities became one of the biggest beneficiaries of this war and not only the opportunity was used to regain the attention and assistance of the US,meanwhile,with its acquiescence and cooperation,more than two-thirds of volunteer prisoners in the war were eventually repatriated to Taiwan,so the Taiwan authorities gained"alternative victories" from the aspects of public opinion and psychological warfare.Based on the background of the Korean War,this paper attempts to explore the"Survival Way" of the Taiwan authorities under the background of the Cold War from the "bottom-up" perspective,and analyze how to change the cumbersome burden quickly into assets and forefront,in order to avoid the fate of the destruction,and achieve the maximizing interests through dangling with the strong.
