Research On Indian Overseas Immigrants,Remittances,and The Impacts Of Remittances On Indian Economic And Social Development

With the further development of globalization,the pace of Indian immigration is increasing.By 2017,India’s overseas population is more than 30 million;this massive oversea immigrant group is widely distributed around the world.The main immigration areas are the Gulf states,Southeast Asia and Euro-American developed capitalist countries.India’s first wave of immigration began in the 1970 s,when Indian labor workers began mass immigration to the Gulf states driven by the rapid development of the global oil industry.Since 1990 s,Indian immigrants are no longer limited to labor workers,and more and more skilled talents have been new immigrants.Their immigration destinations have gradually changed to Euro-American developed countries.With the increasing number of Indian immigrants,the improvement of their vocational skills and income,and the widening of remittance channels the income of remittances from abroad to India have increased year after year.In 2016,the total income of India’s remittances reached 62.7 billion dollars ranking first in the world.Remittances are the most direct and important economic link between India’s oversea immigrants and the motherland.Massive amounts of remittances have had important and far-reaching impacts for the domestic economic and social development in India.Accordingly,this essay mainly introduces Indian immigrant’s history,especially the history of India’s labor workers immigration to the Gulf states,and highly skilled Indian emigration to Euro-American developed countries since 1970 s.Meanwhile,this article summarizes the scale of India’s remittances,sources of remittances,and influences on India’s remittances income.Finally,this essay illustrates the positive and negative impacts of remittances on India’s economic and social development.We should dialectically treat the role of remittances in order to make full use of remittances so we can bring its full range of benefits,but we also should cause a wide range of vigilance and take the necessary precautions to deal with the negative influences of remittances.
