Translation Of Legal Academic Texts On International Investment Arbitration

With the deepening of the rule of law in China,the exchange of legal theories and legal culture between China and foreign countries is becoming increasingly important.It is also noteworthy that the translation of legal academic texts,as a necessary reference material for scholars and practitioners,plays a significant role in legal research and studies.Taking the translation of legal academic texts on international investment arbitration as an example,this paper discusses the translation methods and skills of legal academic texts.Legal academic texts are academic,theoretical,professional and normative.Translators shall make great efforts to maintain these text features.Through the translation practice,the author found that the preparations for the translation of legal academic texts are very essential.Translators should fully understand the professional knowledge involved in the legal academic texts to be translated.After making all-round translation preparations,the translator can adopt such translation methods as complying with fixed expressions,adding notes and selecting meanings for terminology translation,and apply the translation skills of restructuring,omission,division,reiteration and explicitation of reference for sentence translation.
