In the development of science fiction literature,Jules Verne is the founder of western science fiction literature, and Liu Cixin is the first person to push Chinese science fiction literature to the world. This paper attempts to analyze the similarities and differences between Jules Verne and Liu Cixin’s works from four aspects: the description of science and technology, the image of characters, the narrative features and the creative ideas, and discusses how Liu Cixin’s novels inherit Jules Verne science fiction and complete localization in the process of creation, and finally form her own creative characteristics,so as to promote Chinese science fiction literature to better move towards the world stage. The content of this paper is composed of three parts. The first part is the introduction, this part is mainly to make a concise combing of the research background of the paper, analyze the research status of Jules Verne and Liu Cixin’s literary creation, and provide a powerful research background for the discussion of the text. The second part is the text part, which is divides into four chapters. The first chapter compares Jules Verne’s and Liu Cixin’s descriptions of science and technology.First of all, both Jules Verne and Liu Cixin embody a wealth of “hard science fiction” knowledge in terms of scientific and technological description. In their science fiction, there is not only the precise knowledge of natural science, but also the realization of their science and technology conception.Secondly,Jules Verne and Liu Cixin’s descriptions of technology are contemporary.Jules Verne describes the mechanical civilization,Liu Cixin describes the information network civilization, both of the description of science and technology in steps with times. Both Jules Verne and Liu Cixin describe “heterogeneity” in their works.Due to the differences in the degree of development of civilization, the evolution of “heterogeneity” produces different forms.Jules Verne’s “heterogeneity” pays more attention to the evolution of the organism itself, while Liu Cixin’s“heterogeneity” not only has the evolution of the organism itself, but also the combination of the human body and the machine. Finally,Jules Verne’s description of science and technology is precise and accurate, while Liu Cixin not only pays attention to the accuracy of science and technology description, but also adds poetic beauty. The second chapter is to discuss the portrayal of thecharacters by Jules Verne and Liu Cixin.First of all, both Jules Verne and Liu Cixin’s images of humans are typified and symbolized,Jules Verne portrays three kinds of image symbols:father, child and servant, while Liu Cixin regards human beings as a race and the individual as a symbol on behalf of all mankind.Second,in both works,it is often small characters who act as the great heroes.Jules Verne’s heroes are simple and kind, and Liu Cixin’s heroes are often face the test of good and evil in the complex environment,so their images become more sophisticated. Finally,in the portrayal of female images,Jules Verne is relatively lack of description, often taking women as the driving symbol of the plot, while Liu Cixin portrays three kinds of very different female images. The third chapter analyzes the similarities and differences of narrative characteristics from two aspects of narrative time and space and narrative rhythm.First of all,Jules Verne’s view of time is a straight-line development,Liu Cixin will expand the time in the pen.Second, from the perspective of space,Jules Verne is the exploration of geographical space in the earth, while Liu Cinxin has turned his field of vision to the meta-universe many times. Finally,Jules Verne is a straight-line narrative, often slowing downthe urgent;Liu Cixin often leaps the narrative time and space, often speeds up the pace of narrative. The fourth chapter analyzes the similarities and differences of the two creative ideas from three aspects: the view of science fiction, the social conception of the aesthetic pursuit. While inheriting the popular science view,Liu Cixin paid attention to the influence of science fiction literature on society and people’s inner world.Secondly,in the conception of the future society,Jules Verne holds an optimistic attitude towards technology and tries to build an ideal utopia.Liu Cixin,on the other hand, sees the negative effects of technology and has his own thoughts on dystopia, both of which are adept at putting humanity to the test in extreme circumstances. Finally,in the aspects of aesthetiv pursuit,Jules Verne and Liu Cixin are both endowed with lofty aesthetic sense, full of awe of nature, and full of ideal heroism in their works. In formal design,we often pursue the novelty of artistic form and adopt different “environmental settings” when constructing the science fiction world. Finally,it is the conclusion part. This part mainly summarizes the arguments and research significance of this paper, points out the reference significance of worldliterature for Chinese science fiction creation, and probes into how Chinese science fiction can better go to the stage of the world.
