A Report On The English Translation Of Culture-loaded Expressions Based On Translation Variation Theory In Business Chinese Reading Course Of Commercial Cases

The further development of China's "Belt and Road Initiative" has accelerated the pace of Chinese culture's "going abroad",which has set off a Chinese craze in the world.In this paper 12 cases are selected from the foreign students-oriented Chinese textbooks Business Chinese Reading Course of Commercial Cases as corpus.A practical study was conducted on the cultural-loaded expressions that appear in the textbooks with the guidance of variation translation theory.By analyzing the characteristics of cultural-loaded expressions,which are sufficient in form,broad in connotation,and rich in cultural information,the author found out that due to the difference between Chinese and Western cultures,it is difficult to find words that are entirely equivalent or have the same connotation while translating cultural-loaded expressions.The phenomenon of cultural vacancies can be found anytime,bringing about difficulties in reading or learning.Therefore,the focus of this translation practice is how to avoid reading obstacles and misunderstandings caused by cultural defaults.The author persist in taking readers as the center,at the same time combines the principles of practicability,pertinence,science,and knowledge in the compilation of foreign students-oriented Chinese textbooks.Through the analysis of typical cases in practice,this paper explores how to apply the variation translation theory to the translation of cultural-loaded expressions to improve the translation quality and readability.For the convenience of research,the author divides cultural-loaded expressions into five categories according to their cultural connotations: ecological cultural-loaded expressions,material cultural-loaded expressions,social cultural-loaded expressions,religious cultural-loaded expressions,and language cultural-loaded expressions.The author explained the feasibility and necessity of using translation variation methods,especially addition,interpretation and adaptation on cultural-loaded expressions.Finally,the author summarizes the strategies and attention issues of translation variation theory in the translation of cultural-loaded expressions.The author hope the whole practice can provide some support for the study of the translation theory in the field of Chinese to English translation of cultural-loaded expressions and at the same time contribute a little strength to the dissemination of Chinese culture.
