17 Years is the first period of the development of new China’s drama.During this period,the Soviet drama had the most special and close relationship with China.This paper,through transmission studies of Soviet drama in China during the period of 17 Years,finds the characteristics and problems in the transmission process,and discusses the influence of Soviet drama on contemporary dramatic writing in the early years of new China.During the period of 17 Years,the drama exchange between China and the Soviet Union was deeply influenced by the political relations between the two countries with the characteristics of imbalance and fluctuating wildly.While the transmission of Soviet drama in China pointed out the direction for the development of domestic drama,its own limitations also profoundly affected the development of domestic drama.In the early days of the nation,it was badly in need of socialistic New Culture to educate the people and advocate the communist ideals.As the Elder Brother of the socialist camp,it had naturally become the main learning object of domestic cultural construction.The Soviet culture not only provided the advanced experience for the domestic cultural construction,but also encouraged the enthusiasm of the domestic people participating in the socialist construction.As an important part of the Soviet culture,the Soviet drama had an important influence on the development of Chinese drama in the new period.Especially in the period of17 Years,the relationship between art and politics was particularly special.The Soviet Union,as the main foreign cultural country at that time,had a direct impact on the domestic.Such influence,being accompanied by the change of the relationship between the two sides,appeared a different picture and had produced the different influence.Therefore,it is an important way of understanding the development of contemporary drama in China to objectively review the domestic transmission of Soviet drama in the period of 17 Years.The profound analysis of the changes in different stages during the period of 17 Years is of great enlightening significance to the interpretation the development path of contemporary dramatic writing.Therefore,studying the transmission of Soviet drama in China in the period of 17 Years has a very strong realistic value for re-evaluating the development of domestic drama in the new period.First of all,from the international background,domestic situation as well as the relationship between China and the Soviet Union,it states the reason why theauthor chooses the Soviet drama transmission and the appearance characteristics of Chinese drama in different stages after the transmission of Soviet drama in the period of 17 Years.Secondly,through the two aspects of translation and performance,this paper illustrates the main transmission ways of Soviet dramas in China,and finds out the relationship between them and the characteristics of transmission in different stages,as well as the imbalance between translation and performance.At last,the paper summarizes the influence of Soviet drama transmission,and analyzes the methods and thoughts of Chinese dramatic writing.To sum up,based on the common national theories and special domestic and foreign situations,plenty of Soviet drama works were indeed translated and introduced in the period of 17 Years,and their theories and contents also played a guiding role in China.However,in terms of performance,some of the plays were selectively staged,especially the newspapers and magazines at that time did not report much on the Soviet Union’s staged plays.This contrast between more and less,hot and cold formed another perspective to view the Chinese drama and explore the truth of nationalization.In that era of deep integration of politics and culture,Chinese contemporary drama was also exploring its new development direction in the process of Soviet drama transmission.
