Evaluation is a basic and extremely important link in teaching.The effective evaluation strategies used in the teaching have a great impact on both students and teachers.The basic education reform has promoted the diversified development of teaching evaluation methods in China.Reading is one of the basic and essential skills for students.In the basic education stage,the importance of English reading is particularly emphasized,However,due to the impact of“examination-oriented education”,In our country,the final evaluation,which is mainly based on examination results,is not conducive to the development of students' reading ability.Therefore,researchers have incorporated formative assessment into junior middle school English reading teaching in order to improve students 'reading performance,reading attitude and students' self-efficacy.Based on Constructivism theory,Social Interaction theory,and Feedback theory,this study conducted a three-month experimental study with 90 students as research subjects in two natural classes in Xinjiang Tumushuk Middle School.Researchers used experimental method to apply formative assessment to junior middle school English reading teaching,and study the impact of formative assessment on students' reading.This study focuses on the following three questions: 1.What is the effect of formative assessment on subjects' English reading performance? 2.What is the effect of formative assessment on subject's English reading attitudes? 3.What is the effect of formative assessment on subjects' English reading self-efficacy? In order to explore the above three issues,The survey data was collected by questionnaire,test and interview,and the data was sorted and analyzed using social statistics software to obtain the research results.The results showed that the students in the experimental class have made great progress in their English reading performance compared with the control class.Therefore,formative assessment can have a positive impact on junior middle school students' English reading learning.Specifically:(1)Formative assessment can improve students' English reading performance.There are significant differences between students' English reading average scores before and after the test;(2)Applying formative assessment in English reading teaching can improve students' 'English reading learning attitude;(3)Formative assessment can improve junior middle school students' English reading Sense of self-efficacy.The researcher analyzed the questionnaire data and interview texts,and the results showed that formative assessment can improve students' attitudes towards English reading and learning,and enhance their self-confidence and persistence.This study has the following implications for the current junior middle school English reading teaching: First,teachers should change their teaching concepts and shorten the distance between teachers and students,and better implement formative assessment inteaching and improve students' self-efficacy.Second,reading teaching should reflect students' main body status and pay attention to the development of students' reading process.Last but not the least,Teachers should carefully design reading activity tasks and choose appropriate evaluation methods.
