Thinks… is a stream-of-consciousness novel written by contemporary British novelist David Lodge.Adopting writing skills, such as stream of consciousness and interior monologue,David Lodge presents the characters' authentic inner world through the scientist Ralph's soliloquy of thought experiment and the novelist Helen's diary, revealing the conflict and dialogue between humanism and scientism.More importantly,Thinks…not only embodies the features of the “stream of consciousness”novel at phonetic, lexical and syntactic levels but also contains a wealth of aesthetic information.Based on the E-C translation of Thinks…,under the guidance of translation aesthetics, the author of this thesis analyzes the characteristics of the aesthetic object at phonetic, lexical and syntactic levels, and explores the important roles such translation strategies as “imitation”,“rewriting” and “amplification” play in representing the aesthetic information of the source text through case analysis. It is concluded that the theory of translation aesthetics can provide guidance for the translation of Thinks… and other “stream of consciousness” novels.
