A Report On The Translation Of The Phonetic Description Of Voice Quality(Excerpt)

In order to strengthen international academic exchanges and cooperation,international academic texts are our inevitable choice for further study.However,most of international academic texts are written in English,thereby posing a challenge of understanding for Chinese scholars and revealing the significance of the translation of academic texts.At the same time,the widely used professional terms,complex sentences and high information density of academic texts have brought about many difficulties to translators.Based on Newmark's text typology theory and communicative translation theory,this thesis explores translation strategies and methods of academic texts according to the translation of The Phonetic Description of Voice Quality.The research methods used in this thesis are text analysis and case study.Firstly,under the guidance of Newmark's text typology theory,the original text has been analyzed that it belongs to the informative text.Secondly,the typical examples in the translation practice are explored from the lexical,syntactic and discoursal levels on the basis of Newmark's communicative translation theory.This thesis concludes that Newmark's theory provides necessary scientific support for this translation task and makes the translation achieve a better communicative effect,especially for the communicative translation theory,which plays a key role in dealing with academic texts.
