Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari(1876-1948)was one of the outstanding Italian composers in the neoclassical period of the 20 th century, who had creative works in various fields including comic opera, instrumental ensemble, artistic songs as well as choral music.Four Salutes(4 Rispetti,op.11),written in 1902,is a vocal cycle for soprano and piano and its lyrics are based on Italian folk poetry. The work includes four pieces in total: A green lawn without trees(Un Verde praticello senza piante),I send you a thousand greetings(Jo dei saluti ve ne mando mille),And there is as much danger of my leaving you(E tanto c 'e pericol ch 'io ti lasci)and O yes,I didn't used to know how to sigh(O si che non sape vo sospirare). This paper will take the relationship between poetry and music as the main line, and it will analyze Four Salutes(4 Rispetti,op.11)from the harmonic of the musical form and poetic text.My purpose is to deeper understand this work and to get more inspirations from it in terms of interpretation.
