| Schumann is one of the masters of the German Romanticism period.He composed many different forms during his life,piano compositions(1833-9);lied(1840);symphonies(1841);chamber music(1842);oratorio(1843);counterpoint form(1845);opera music(1847-8)and church music.Schumann wrote Fünf Stück im Volkston in 1849 for the Leipzig cellist Andreas Grabau,at the same time he adapted it for violin.In this thesis with due consideration regarding timbre and tonal range of viola,with regards the not too abundance of viola repertoire,I decided to transcribe ‘Fünf Stück im volkston’ for viola and performed at academic degree concert with success.This thesis is about how I transcribe the composition for viola with respect to Schumann’s original musical intention,taking I detail consideration of viola timbre,tonal range,through analytical usage and suggestions of musical tools like vibrato,breathing,rehearsal techniques and points of awareness with piano. |
