Celeste Ng is a Chinese American female writer. Her debut novel,Everything I Never Told You,became Amazon's best-selling book of 2014.This novel from the perspective of the third person omniscience tells the emotional crisis experienced by the members of an interracial marriage family and the tragedy caused by it.At present, scholars at home and abroad have focused on the study of Everything I Never Told You from the perspectives of ethnicity, identity search, ethical literary criticism and trauma theory, while few scholars have analyzed the novel from the perspective of Freud's personality structure theory. Therefore, this thesis tries from Freud's personality structure theory to analyze the three main characters in the novel from id,ego and superego.Using Freud's personality structure theory as the theoretical foundation, this thesis introduces its background and development process. The complete personality structure is composed of id,ego and superego. When the triple personalities cooperate closely, they can make people communicate with the external environment smoothly;on the contrary, when they conflict with each other, they will affect people's behaviors and even endanger the survival and development of human beings. This thesis uses Freud's personality structure theory to analyze the id,ego and superego of the three main characters in the novel, namely the white mother Marilyn, the mixed-race child Lydia and the Chinese father James.White mother Marilyn chooses between desire and responsibility, ideal and reality, and chooses to face up to herself and embrace a new life after losing her daughter.Mixed-race child Lydia under the excessive expectations of parents led to her triple personality imbalance and suicide.Chinese father James was subjected to racial discrimination since his childhood and wanted to blend in with the crowd. After experiencing the baptism of life,he finally found the true meaning of life.By using Freud's personality structure theory, this thesis analyzes the three main characters in Everything I Never Told You from id,ego and superego and draw conclusions.A healthy personality structure is crucial to the growth of each person and affects the development of everyone's life.In all of life,we learn to be ourselves without the expectations of others. At the same time, the novel has great practical significance because itreflects the big problems of society with the small problems of one family.
