As one of the most important writers of contemporary Thai literature,Lao Khamhawm has been widely recognized as a classic writer.However,the classic status of Lao Khamhawm's works is not achieved overnight,but is gradually constructed.The classicization process of Lao Khamhawm's works is not only due to the literary charm of his works,but also relies on the participation of ideology.Lao Khamhawm's early works have always been in the "marginalized" position.The author's "marginal" life experience makes him pay attention to "marginal" in his literary creation.He used a "marginal" vision to write about rural society in Thailand,objectively depicting the survival of "marginal people",and clearly showing the famine,ignorance and poverty of "marginal zone".At the same time,he also borrowed animal metaphors to compare human nature with animal nature,and exposed the survival predicament of "marginal people".However,this strategy of writing is not deliberately alienating the "mainstream".On the contrary,Lao Khamhawm is eager to close to "mainstream" literature and his work to get the attention of official ideology.He also tries to express the unwritten things that ignored by the "Art for life" literature camp.The "objectivity" and "truth" shown in the"marginal" writing became the characteristics of his work,and later participated in the construction of the classicization of the work."Isan regionalism" is gradually emphasized in Lao Khamhawm's works.Even though”Isan regionalism" is a concept constructed by the "Central Thai",it is also used to refer to the regional features of northeastern Thailand.On the one hand,some of Lao Khamhawm's novels continue to defend the "Isan regionalism",breaking the stereotype of "fool and rough guys" in the perspective of the Others.On the other hand,During his exile in Sweden,he constantly re-writes his hometown,constructs his "Urheimat" in a literary way,and shows readers the "Isan regionalism" in the context of the new era.It highlights the local customs and local culture of the Isan region.Eventually,"Isan regionalism" makes his writings have a layer of regional background,and has become an element of the classic construction of the work.The artistic aspect,the creative style of the stream of consciousness novel,and the use of irony are also important internal factors to conquer the readers.At the same time,the ideology is also participated in this construction.In different periods,ideology has influenced the evaluation of the value of Lao Khamhawm's works.At the beginning,he was regarded as a "native writer",and a writer of the "Art for life"literary camp.However,in an era of intense political confrontation,the qualities of his early works have not been valued by the "mainstream" literary circle,but have also been misunderstood by official ideology.Later,as the political democratization of Thailand progressed,both the official ideology and the literary critics believed that the rural problems exposed in Lao Khamhawm's works were also unsolved problems in contemporary rural Thailand.His work not only embodies the humanitarian spirit and enlightenment consciousness,but also shows the "Isan regionalism" in different ways.In the end,his "Sky with no boundary" was officially included in the "100 Best Books" that Thais should read.As Lao Khamhawm became more and more concerned and respected,more of his works were gradually interpreted,and its classic significance was also affirmed.
