In the four basic skills in foreign language acquisition(listening,speaking,reading and writing),writing is the most difficult for college student.Although the student has mastered a certain amount of basic vocabulary and grammar knowledge,it is still a big headache for most students to write good compositions.As the development of corpus linguistics,people have a new understanding of the vocabulary teaching in recent years.Language researchers have found that there are many language structures which have fixed or semifixed syntax and vocabulary features in the natural language of English.These language structures are stored in memory and extracted directly for use,without generation and analysis.This language structure is called as "formulaic sequence" by British linguist Wray.For Foreign language learners,They are lack of the language sensitivity and have limited ability to code language rule.Formulaic sequences are an integral whole of storage and output,which can reduce the burdens of language learners,and is beneficial to the idiomaticity and the accuracy of the language expression.In this regard,it indicates the importance of formulaic sequences learning.In recent years,the role of formulaic sequences has been brought into focus increasingly.Many teachers and scholars have proposed to teach the formulaic language in class.However,due to huge quantity and great variety of formulaic sequences,it is not realistic to be taught only one by one.Some scholars think that the key of teaching formulaic sequences aims to cultivate the awareness of strategies application of students,and strengthen the strategies-based training to promote the autonomous learning ability of students.The strategies-based training for learning the formulaic sequences is an effective way to assist students to obtain the autonomy.However,the research on formulaic sequences learning strategies mainly focuses on the theoretical exploration.There are few empirical research taking Chinese English learners as subjects in the context of foreign language learning.On the basis of Cohen’s SBI teaching mother,this study adopts literature research method,investigation method and empirical method.The experiment involved senior high school students from two natural classes in a private high school of Luoyang.The two classes were designated as one experimental group and one control group.In this experiment,the control group was taught in the traditional teaching method through the whole term.In the meantime,formulaic sequences learning strategies based on SB I was applied to the experimental group.In this term,students were asked to write three compositions and the grades and the numbers of the formulaic sentences used in their compositions were entered into SPSS 13.0 for analysis.Meanwhile,interviews with students from experimental classes are conducted and sample compositions are analyzed.The results showed that:1.The application of formulaic sequences learning strategies in SBI mode to English writing teaching is practical and effective.2.The high-scores compositions and the low-scores compositions are different in using formulaic sequences;3.There is a positive correlation between the high scores and the quantity of formulaic sequences.At last the author also reflect the problems arised in the experiment and points out the direction of studies in the future.
