| Coldness is a modern Chinese vocabulary,which literally means coolness andsternness,it comes from Mao Dun’s 《Midnight》.Usually used to describe a person’s serious attitude and emotion,can also be used to describe cruel environments,at the same time,it can be used as an adjective of realismin literature and movies.Cold realism works include: Stendhal’s "Red and Black";Maupassant’s "Joint Friends";Cohn brothers’ "Fargo";Jean-Pierre Melville’s " L’Armee des Ombres";Shen fu’s "Myriads of lights";Diao yinan’s "Black Coal,Thin Ice" and so on.Coldness can be used as an artistic style here,refers to a state in which external reality profoundly affects an individual’s life and ideals,resulting in an individual’s inner will depression that continues to be unable to be relieved.The relevant features can be summarized from related works:starting from a humanitarian standpoint,using realism as the principle,exposing social ills,calmly observing the cruel environment,highlighting the complex and changeable nature of humanity and evil,and visually describing the tragic process of alienation of human nature.It is similar to critical realism,but it is more different.Critical realism is used in literature and pays more attention to class and social background,cold realism is more extensive,paying more attention to people themselves.What we mean by the cold film style is not only that,it refers to the dual coldness of movie viewing psychology and picture presentation.It is partly the same as black film in American genre films,but it is also very different,the coldness here also includes personal stylization and a large number of story expressions and screen presentations that are out of genre movie plots.This article will mainly focus on the micro-film "No Where",Combining works with film theory,and combining aesthetics,psychology and other angles,analyze the shaping of cold image style. |
