In this thesis,students and teachers of the Chinese immersion program at Mueller Park Jr.High School in the United States are investigated.Through interviews with students and questionnaires,the thesis collection and related bibliography on Chinese teaching are collected and compiled.A comprehensive survey of Chinese teaching has been done.Through investigation,the problems remaining in the current Chinese teaching of Mueller Park Jr.High School were found and suggestions were made.This thesis consists of five parts.The first chapter is the introduction,which includes research background,purpose,significance and research methods of this topic.The second chapter lays the foundation for the thesis through the historical and current research on American Chinese immersion program.The third chapter first introduces the Chinese teaching situation in Utah,USA,and makes a survey design.Then it introduces the Chinese teaching situation in Mueller Park Jr.High School from four aspects: school,teachers,students and teaching.The fourth chapter starts from the actual situation of Chinese teaching in Mueller Park Jr.High School,and finds out specific problems in Chinese teaching in the school from the five levels of school,teacher,student,textbook and Chinese test.The fifth chapter gives the targeted improvement strategies based on the problems found in the Chinese teaching found in the fourth chapter.The last part of this thesis is the concluding part.Based on the summary of the thesis,the innovations and deficiencies of this thesis are proposed.
