Comprehensive Course,as the core course of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language(TCFL),is aimed at the teaching of phonetics,vocabulary,grammar and pragmatics in order to improve students' language skills.As TCFL develops rapidly,researches on Comprehensive Course have become more diversified.Communicative Language Teaching(CLT),with its unique style and principles,has evolved for decades and been gradually applied to TCFL.However,there is still room for the research on Comprehensive Course teaching and for the application of the communicative approach to Comprehensive Courses through case analysis.This paper analyzes the real-classroom cases by applying CLT to Comprehensive Courses,with the aid of classroom observation and after-class interviews to reflect on the effect of the Communicative Language Teaching in the course.Finally,the author proposes to better integrate CLT with Comprehensive Chinese Course.This thesis is divided into the following parts:The first part is the introduction,which deals with the background and research significance,and which explains the research content and methods.The second part studies the relevant information of CLT.After consulting a large amount of literature,the paper summarizes the research status of Communicative Language Teaching and case analysis of TCFL,and pinpoints the definition,theoretical basis,teaching characteristics and principles of CLT.The third part analyzes the teaching objects,materials,course types,teaching goals,and classroom activities.CLT is designed to guide the teaching practice so that the recording and transcribing of the teaching process are done on spot.Besides,The paper selects typical cases concerning vocabulary,grammar,text and classroom activities for analysis.The fourth part evaluates the effect of the application through classroom observation and after-class interviews,and reflects on the advantages and disadvantages of CLT in theComprehensive Course.In the end,the author makes some feasible suggestions.The fifth part sums up the thesis,and points out the deficiencies of the research.The paper suggests that while applying Communicative Language Teaching Approach to Comprehensive Chinese Course,we should be student-centered,and make full use of teachers' guidance in the teaching process.In the meantime,in view of students' specific conditions,teachers are required to adopt a host of measures in teaching and classroom management.In this way,in learning through communication,students will learn to communicate as well.
