Motivation plays an important role in foreign language learning while CET-4 is a common English proficiency test for all college students.Therefore,the study of the correlation between CET-4 achievements and foreign language learning motivation is significant as far as intervention measures in language learning motivation are concerned.This study adopts L2 motivational Self System(L2MSS)as theoretical basis to investigate the correlation between CET-4 achievements and three dimensions of L2 motivational Self System,i.e.ideal L2 self(IL2S),ought-to L2 self(OL2S)and L2 learning experience(SLLE).The aims to answer the following three questions: 1)What is the overall status of the three dimensions in the L2 motivational Self System of Non-English majors? 2)What are the differences of learners' gender and their majors in L2MSS? 3)What is the correlation between the three dimensions of L2 MSS and CET-4 achievements of non-English majors?In this study,a total of 289 valid questionnaires were collected from 310non-English-major sophomores of Shenyang Normal University.Data analysis software of SPSS 20.0 is used for analysis.The results are as follows: 1)The mean scores of three dimensions of non-English majors are ordered from up to down: ideal L2 self > L2 learning experience > ought-to L2 self;2)There is the significant differences between gender and different majors in ideal L2 self and L2 learning experience,but there is no significant difference in ought-to L2 self both of gender and majors;3)CET-4achievement is correlated with the ideal L2 self and L2 learning experience,but is not correlated with the ought-to L2 self.Based on the results,the researcher hopes to provide some suggestions for the College English teaching to help students strengthen and internalize their English learning motivation.Finally,the limitations of the study and suggestions for improvement are summarized.
