With the development of economic globalization and the “One Belt One Road”Initiative,as well as the deepening of international exchanges,the state has paid a growing number of attention to fostering college students' English comprehensive competence.Recently,the disadvantages of “separation of learning and using” in college English teaching has become increasingly prominent.In particular,listening and speaking teaching is not only the weak link to be improved,but the key and difficult point of teaching reform.The emergence of Production-oriented Approach(POA)aims to improve the efficiency and quality of classroom teaching,thereby providing a new thinking for foreign language teaching research.Based on POA and the results of previous research,this study intends to build a college English listening and speaking teaching model based on POA.There are three research questions that need to be answered in detail:(1)What are the characteristics of college English listening and speaking teaching model based on POA compared with the traditional teaching model?(2)What are the effects of the listening and speaking teaching model based on POA on the cultivation of students' listening and speaking ability?(3)What are the changes of students' attitudes and willingness towards listening and speaking class under the listening and speaking teaching model based on POA?The subjects of this study are 88 sophomores from two non-English major classes in Shenyang Normal University.The language proficiency of the two classes is basically the same through the pretest.The experimental class is selected at random to adopt the listening and speaking teaching model based on POA,while the control class accepts the traditional teaching model.Two classes are taught bythe same teacher using the same textbook and the total teaching time is 16 weeks.In line with the data analysis of tests,classroom observation and interview,the study comes to these three major findings:(1)The listening and speaking teaching model based on POA changes the roles of the teacher and students,with students and learning as the center and the teacher as the guiding role.It optimizes the teaching procedures,with output driving input and then with input enabling oral production.Meanwhile,it also improves the assessment method,with assessment as the means to better promote students' listening and speaking learning.(2)The listening and speaking teaching model based on POA plays a positive role in improving students' listening and speaking ability.In the enabling phase,students can master the content of ideas,language forms and discourse structures,which can help raise their listening comprehension.Moreover,students can also enhance their oral expression accuracy,coherence and appropriateness through the input of listening materials and the output of productive activities.(3)Under the listening and speaking teaching model based on POA,the students' initiative and enthusiasm are highly enhanced when they take part in teaching activities.They are also more willing to practice oral production in communicative scenes and express their opinions boldly.
