As we all know,vocabulary learning is the most important and basic part of English learning.Without the basis of vocabulary,any further study of English can not be carried out smoothly.The new curriculum standard also puts forward new requirements for English vocabulary teaching.In the past junior high school vocabulary class,teachers did not put a lot of energy into teaching students how to use good methods to memorize and master words.Most of the word learning in junior high school is boring,mainly by rote memorization.In this thesis,the researcher has done a research on the application of inquiry learning mode to English vocabulary teaching in junior middle school.The 5E mode in inquiry learning can stimulate students' interest in vocabulary learning and improve their learning ability.This mode can enable students to really master the good method of learning vocabulary,solve problems in the process of inquiry,and thus carry out the independent construction of knowledge.The researcher conducts a three-month experiment in a middle school in Shenyang in order to prove whether inquiry learning can improve students' vocabulary learning ability and interests.This study focuses on two main questions:(1)What are the effects of inquiry learning on students' vocabulary learning?(2)What are the changes of students' attitudes towards English vocabulary learning after the application of inquiry learning method ?The subjects of this experiment are two parallel classes,Class 1 of Grade 7(45students)is the control class,and Class 2 of Grade 7(46 students)is the experimental class.During the three-month experiment,the researcher carries out traditional teaching in the control class and inquiry mode in the experimental class to teach vocabulary.In this experiment,pre-test,post-test,questionnaire and interview are used to collect data.The results of pre-test and post-test are analyzed with SPSS.22.0software to see the comparison.The results show that through 5E inquiry learning,students' attitude towards vocabulary learning has changed greatly.Students become more active in vocabulary learning,can master the ability to learn vocabulary independently,enhance the sense of teamwork,and be good at expressing their views.Inquiry learning mode also improves students' ability to construct knowledge,discover problems,explore problems and solve problems independently.
