| One of the most difficult problems for Chinese junior high school students is the lack of writing ability.English writing plays an important role in the process of English teaching with the higher requirement of New Curriculum Standards to junior high school students.Many teachers and researchers have made different attempts to seek more effective methods to develop junior high school students’ English writing ability.The researcher endeavors to apply prefabricated chunks to junior high school English writing to improve students’ writing ability based on previous studies.Prefabricated chunks are a fixed or semi-fixed unit of memory organization which can be easily used in communication without conscious efforts and grammatical analysis.This thesis mainly studies the following two questions:(1)What are the effects of prefabricated chunks on improving students’ writing competence?(2)What are the changes of students’ attitudes towards English writing after the implementation of prefabricated chunks teaching?One hundred students from two classes of Grade 9 in Shenyang,Hongqiao junior high school participate in this experiment which lasts for three months.During the experiment,questionnaire,interview,pre-test and post-test are used to solve these two problems.For the first research question,the researcher adopts pre-test and post-test,and the result of the pre-test shows that there are no visible differences between the two classes.However,the result of post-test shows that there is a significant difference in students’ writing competence between the experimental class and the control class after teaching the prefabricated chunks.For the second research question,the researcher adopts questionnaires to know the changes of students’ attitudes towards English writing.In addition,some students are interviewed in experimental class for a deeper understanding after the experiment and the questionnaire two is also completed again to find out the changes of students’ attitude towards English writing in experimental class.Finally,the researcher draws a conclusion that the application of prefabricated chunks is an effective teaching method in English writing teaching after analyzing the data of questionnaires and tests.Not only does it improve students’ English writing competence effectively,but it changes students’ attitude towards English writing. |
