Based on the concept of narrative paintings,characteristics of narrative painting,role and significance under the background of the era of change,these paper analyzes contemporary significance of narrative paintings.Combined the shift of the significance of narrative paintings in different periods to research for the selection of Xinjiang oil painting and its internal social background.Through the comparative analysis of the painter's works in different historical periods,discussing the development of Xinjiang regional narrative theme and innovation.The paper divides the oil painting of Xinjiang into three historical periods.The first period is before liberation to the reform and opening up,and the Xinjiang oil painting is mainly historical and literary narrative,realism as the narrative reappearance history and folk cusoms,the purpose is propaganda and sing the new China;The second period is after the reform and opening up to the former in the millennium,the painter breakthrough realistic narrative,the ethnic color,the symbol of the national elements such as design of fusion to the creation and use with flat decorative narrative with national life creation as the material,creating a series of works with lyric means that the performance of national life;The third period after the 1999 Xinjiang oil painting subject matter began to break through the original material narrative,subject choice is more diverse freedom,narrative expression to the mind,by applying the method of symbol and so on various approaches to narrative,began to join the Chinese philosophy,traditional Chinese painting in the narrative elements,such as the Chinese civilization elements,narrative contents on humanistic care and the national spirit of metaphor.In recent years,the young artists have turned the narrative Angle from the grand narrative to the micro narration.The last part is the diversity of Xinjiang oil painting subject matter revolutionary,nationality,in combination with the era significance of narrative paintings to analyze the characteristics of finishing the era significance of narrative paintings in Xinjiang and the modern oil painting creators of inspiration.
