In the field of English teaching,cognition and emotion are two inseparable parts.The reform of English basic education has already shifted the focus of teaching from "how to teach" to "how to learn",which shows that the dominant position of students has been strengthened and the sensibility and attitude of students has been greatly focused on.At present,junior high school students suffer from a certain degree of anxiety in English learning due to the great pressure of senior high school entrance examination,high expectations of parents and improper teaching methods of teachers.Anxiety,as a negative emotional factor,has reduced learning efficiency and interest and also extremely affects the effect of language storage and output.The period of junior high school is an important link between primary school and senior high school,while anxiety will bring many potential problems to junior high school students’ English learning.Therefore,it is necessary to investigate the current situation of English learning anxiety in junior high schools.Based on the theories of humanism and the affective filter hypothesis,this research investigates the current situation of English learning anxiety in a junior high school in Xiuyan county.Data collection was conducted through classroom observations,questionnaire and interviews,and data analysis was carried out on this basis.This research aims to explore three questions as follows.1.What is the current situation and specific aspects of English learning anxiety in junior high school? 2.What are the factors influencing English learning anxiety? 3.How to effectively alleviate junior high school students’ anxiety in English learning?It is shown in the research that English learning anxiety has been commonly existed among junior high school students,who have a high degree of anxiety.It mainly reflected in text anxiety,communication anxiety and negative anxiety,and communication anxiety which is the main manifestation of English learning anxiety among junior high school students.There are many factors that cause anxiety among junior high school students in English learning,which mainly from teachers,students themselves and parents.From the perspective of the teachers,teachers’ classroom questioning methods,teaching methods and evaluation methods do not fully consider students’ self-esteem,which has increased students’ anxiety.From the perspective ofthe students,students are afraid to speak out because of anxiety about English learning,low self-evaluation,lacking of confidence in examinations,which have also led to anxiety about English learning.From the perspective of the parents,parents’ lack of emotional care and excessive interference to their children,and a lack of understanding of their children’s inner world and higher performance requirements they show to their children have caused serious anxiety among junior high school students in English learning.Thus,English learning anxiety is caused by many factors.In order to make junior high school students get rid of their anxiety in English learning and make them actively and positively devote themselves to learning English.Based on the analysis of the current situation of English learning anxiety in junior high school,this research puts forward strategies to reduce their English learning anxiety,hoping to improve the current situation of anxiety in English learning.
