Narrative Study Of Character Documentary Films

Since the 1990 s,documentaries with humanistic spirit have appeared in large numbers,focusing on individuals.We should pay attention to the normal life of ordinary people,the social contradictions arising from the collision between social development and people’s thinking lag,and the problems of people living with the natural environment.Ordinary individuals are the most basic units in the group category.It is the common individual that is the most basic response of a society,a kind of life,a kind of law,a kind of change and so on.The self-orientation of the graduation work "Making a living from the sea" is a documentary about ordinary workers in Chinese society,and it is also a character documentary about the life of ordinary fishermen in the category of sea-related.The story takes place in Qingfeng Village,Pingtan County,Fujian Province.Taking the time sequence as the axis,this paper tells the story of men and women of Minyu 65012 fishing boat who fished and sold fish overnight under the background of marine ecological destruction,no secondary industry and no transformation of traditional fishing villages.The creator goes deep into the traditional fishing villages on the island to understand the environment,experience the fishermen’s traditional manual work closely,and feel the fishermen’s family emotions.Through linear narration and emotional narration,he shows the life of men fishing and women selling fish in detail and music,so as to reflect their special and irregular tidal time and continuous fishing at sea in a very small number.The hardship of shore marketing,which is constantly rejected,and the optimistic,enriching and hard-working spirit of ordinary people who are helpless.The filmmakers hope that it is not only a documentary about fishermen’s life,but also a documentary about how the bottom working class works hard to live.The latter has gone beyond concern for fishermen’s lives.Based on the narrative theory of documentaries,this paper studies the creative process of the personal graduation work "Making a living from the sea".From the narrative theory concept,narrative structure and narrative form of expression,combined with theoretical literature,this paper makes an analysis of all aspects of the graduation work "Make a living by the sea".Narrative theory has been tested and presented in manyaspects,such as character selection,story selection,narrative angle,narrative structure and image narrative elements.
