In order to adapt to the development of economic globalization,language teaching has begun to pay more attention to the cultivation of individual barrier-free communicative competence,that is,the cultivation of intercultural communicative competence.Therefore,to advance English teaching skills in China,our government makes a much more detailed description of the goal of cultural awareness in the New Curriculum Reform,which is based on the fruits of dynamic foreign language culture teaching at home and abroad.The cultural learning content of organizing English courses has penetrated into every field of English education,which has become a necessary link.As the goal of cultural awareness first appeared in the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education as a grading goal,it has aroused many scholars' research upsurge on the cultural content and cultural teaching of textbooks.However,the relevant research on cultural content mostly focuses on the junior and senior high school stages.Primary school English learning is the enlightening stage of the whole English learning process.It is self-evident that cultural education permeates the students in the enlightening stage,which has a far-reaching impact on learners' effective English learning and communication in the future.By referring to the relevant literature on cultural content research at home and abroad,this paper raises the question of "whether the distribution of cultural content in primary school English textbooks published by PEP is reasonable" on the basis of the research on cultural content,and then puts forward the hypothesis that the selection of cultural content in textbooks meets the requirements of curriculum standards.In order to verify the hypothesis,relevant research is carried out here.Through the screening of multicultural theories and research methods,the relevant theories,such as linguistic-cultural relationship theory,foreign language curriculum organization theory,cognitive schema theory,cross-cultural awareness level and textbook compilation,are briefly sorted out and summarized.Based on these theories,the research methods are literature,data statistics and text analysis.On the basis of the cultural awareness required by the curriculum standard,this paper analyses the cultural content of the textbooks of the senior grade of primary school English published by PEP from the macro and micro levels,and then draws the general and specific characteristics of the cultural content of the textbooks.Finally,based on the curriculum standards,the author draws the conclusion that the selection of cultural content in textbooks is more in line with the requirements of the curriculum standards.However,the cultural content in textbooks also has some shortcomings,including the insufficient comprehensiveness of cultural content,the lack of epoch character,the insufficient depth of cultural content and the slight deviation of the focus of cultural content.It also puts forward some suggestions on how to revise and improve the cultural content of textbooks.
