Zhao Xie’s Political Thoughts And Social Practice Of His Disciples

Zhao Xie was the representative figure of the philosophy of the mind at the eastern part of Zhejiang in the Yuan Dynasty.He taught himself Yang Jian’s thought of Psychology。He was called the Baofeng School along with 33 disciples Chen Lin,Gui Yanliang and Wu Sidao.Together with his thirty-three disciples,he was called the Baofeng School.In the past,there were more studies on Zhao Xie ’s psychological thoughts,but less on Zhao Xie ’s political thoughts and disciples.This paper studies Zhao Xie ’s political and his attempt to combine the mind theory with politics thought through Zhao Baofeng Collection.This paper chooses Chen Lin,Gui Yanliang,Wu Sidao,Wang Huan,Xiang Shou and Xiang Pu as the research objects.From their personal experience,we can see the social practice of Baofeng School under the influence of Zhao Xie ’s thought.He wanted to take part in imperial examinations in his early years and later gave up.He lectured in seclusion at the foot of Dabao Mountain.Scholars call him "Mr.Baofeng" Someone once advised him to enter the official.He said,"I am the descendant of the Song Dynasty.I don’t want to be a official,but I can’t be a official.Besides,this is not a good time to be an official." At the end of the Yuan Dynasty,social unrest,Fang Guozhen occupied the eastern part of Zhejiang Province,forcing Zhao Xie to be an official,Zhao Wei refused.His legacy is "Baoyuntang Collection",which was lost because of the war.During the Jiajing period of the Qing Dynasty,his descendant Zhao Wenhua collected his collections and compiled two volumes,which is today’s "Zhao Baofeng Collection".With regard to Zhao Qi’s life and friendship,through the materials found in the local chronicles,the process of Zhao Wei’s family moving to Cixi County was confirmed,which supplemented the past research.His friends include Wang Yue,Shi Guan and Yang Rui,and the disciples recorded thirty-three.Among them,Chen Lin,Gui Yanliang,Wu Benliang,Wu Sidao,Xiang Shou and Wang Huan have more detailed records,while other disciples have very few records,most of which only record their names.Although Zhao Xie had not been an official all his life,he put forward systematic and detailed political proposals for the politics of Yuan Dynasty.He advocated moral education and required officials to have higher personal qualities.He proposed a strategy to deal with the relationship between the superior and the subordinate.In order to change the corrupt bureaucracy in the Yuan Dynasty and correct the prevailing litigation atmosphere among the people,he proposed a solution.As a thought-minding thinker,he tried to integrate the concept of "heart" into political theory and pushed the philosophy of the mind to the path of the world.Some of his disciples are official officials,some are in seclusion,but they all have an influence on the society at that time through their own practice.His disciple,Chen Lin,is the most thorough person in the political and ideological practice of Zhao Xie.Wu Sidao and Xiang Pu’s official positions are lower,and the county is governed.Gui Yanliang and Wang Huan have higher official positions and can reach the center of politics.The Baofeng School,composed of Zhao Xie and his disciples,expanded his influence on politics and grassroots society through his own practice.
