This thesis is a translation report on the excerpt(Chapter Zhongzhi)from Xian Qing Ou Ji(Casual Expressions of Idle Feeling),which is written by Li Yu,a Chinese novelist, playwright and drama theoretician in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. This work includes eight parts, namely,Shengrong(Women and Beauty),Ciqu(Writing Plays),Yanxi(Putting on Plays),Jushi(Houses and Gardens),Qiwan(Furniture,China and the like),Yinzhuan(Food and Drink),Zhongzhi(Flowers and Trees),Yiyang(Health and Pleasure). As a Chinese classical work,Xian Qing Ou Ji(Casual Expressions of Idle Feeling)contains a great amount of culture-loaded words and profound cultural background knowledge. Thus the translator takes the thick translation theory of Kwame Anthony Appiah as the guidance theory. The whole report includes the following four parts: chapter one introduces the translation task, including a brief introduction to the author, the book, the source text and the requirements and standards for the task;chapter two is about the procedure description, including the preparations before translation, translation procedure, and proofreading;chapter three is the most important part of this report, including a brief introduction to the thick translation theory, case study, and analysis under the guidance of four translation techniques;chapter four is about the summary, including the translation overview and reflections. The translation practice has certain guiding significance for the translator, and her writing ability and scientific research ability have been greatly improved in the process of writing the translation report. However, there are still some limitations in this translation report.Firstly, the translator's understanding of the thick translation theory is not thorough enough,so she fails to carry out an in-depth discussion on the report with the theory.Secondly, due to the inadequate translation experience of the translator, there are still some imperfections in the translation practice.Through this translation practice, the translator hopes to improve her translation ability in the future.
