With the acceleration of globalization,China's economic and cultural communication with other countries in the world has become increasingly close.Especially the friendly communication and trade cooperation between China and Kazakhstan are of great significance to the entire Central Asian region.Guided by Eugene Nida's Functional Equivalence theory, the author of this report translates and analyzes the second chapter of Kazakhstan Today. This book introduces political and economic situation of modern Kazakhstan from various perspectives with detailed content and formal language style. The excerpted Chapter Two in this report is mainly concerned with the country's domestic policy, which can be viewed as a political text.On the basis of Functional Equivalence theory, the author summarizes in category the difficulties in the process of translation, and makes specific case analysis to discuss relevant translation methods. At lexical level, the author mainly resolves difficulties by adding notes, choosing word meanings and transforming part of speech. At syntactic level, the main obstructions contains passive voice, word order variation and English long sentences. At discourse level, the author discusses the translation of pronouns and conjunctions to ensure discourse cohesion and semantic coherence. In general, the author adopts flexible translating strategies to achieve the closest natural equivalent to the source text,so that the response of target receptors can be basically consistent with that of original readers and functional equivalence can be achieved.Through this translation practice, the author has realized that translators should put readers' feelings first. In different situations, various translation methods should be chosen flexibly to ensure accuracy, fluency and naturalness of target text. The author hopes to improve her translation ability through this report and provide some references for other people' translation practice of the same type or theme.
