Since the last century,violent video games have gradually become an important part of residents’ entertainment activities.In recent years,narrative themes such as war and disaster have been added to violent video games,which have triggered players’ thinking on reality in the virtual game world.It is worth considering how to explore the positive effects of violent video game from the perspective of narrative.Narrative is a basic way for people to understand the world and an important part of a video game.In violent video game,the role setting and the narrative context are narrative elements in the game,which plays a critical role in the players’ understanding of the game and behavior decision.The character setting is a literal description of the character’s personality,character’s experience and interpersonal relationship,while the narrative context is a narration of the information such as the rules of the game world,culture and economy.The role is the intermediary between the player and the game,the image of the role affects the player’s behavior decision,identification and feeling,the role is in the game environment,the role’s behavior is restricted by the game environment.In the process of participating in the game,players need to combine the information of the character setting and the narrative context to make a response.Studies have found that role setting can influence players’ post-game behavior,but there is disagreement over whether this effect is positive.In the study of narrative context,there are few studies,and the inconsistency between the same materials and the measurement method makes it difficult to compare the results.In addition,previous studies have not explored the relationship between the character setting and narrative context,and it is still uncertain whether the influence of the two on the player is influenced by each other.To sum up,under the condition of controlling the additional variables such as the game picture,the reward and punishment mechanism and the avatar image,this study explored the influence of the role setting in the violent video game on the player’s aggression and pro-social behavior,and the role of narrative context in the violent video game through three experiments.In the part of experiment preparation,the narrative text of character setting and narrative context was edited by referring to the characters and the game plot of the game Prototype,and the narrative text was integrated with the game animation through video editing to form 6 game animations covering narrative materials.In research 1,we invited 53 undergraduate students in Yunnan normal university as subjects,assigned randomly to violent character,prosocial role group,two groups of subjects were watching violent,prosocial role set animation game,then complete the violent video games Prototype specified levels and jigsaw puzzle task,to explore the role of violent video games set for players to attack,the influence of the pro-social behavior.In research 2,we invited 105 undergraduates of Yunnan normal university as subjects,assigned randomly to violent role-reversed context group,violent role-not reverse context,prosocial role reversal context group,pro social role-the inversion of context in the group,four groups of participants were covering different roles to watch set animation game,narrative context information,then complete Prototype specified levels and the jigsaw puzzle,further explore under the action of different narrative context,character set to attack,the influence of the pro social behavior subjects.In research 3,we invited 85 undergraduates of Yunnan normal university as subjects,assigned randomly to violent character-reversed context group,role violence-not reverse context,prosocial role reversal context group and prosocial role-the inversion of context in the group,four groups of participants were covering different roles to watch set animation game,narrative context information,then complete Prototype specified levels and explicit Simon emotion test.To explore the cognitive differences of implicit aggression under different character setting and narrative context.The results showed that: 1)the character setting had an impact on the aggression and pro-social behaviors of the players,compared with the violent characters,the aggressive behaviors induced by the pro-social characters were lower and the prosocial behaviors were higher;2)the narrative context moderates the influence of character setting on players’ aggressive pro-social behavior.When the narrative context contains more pro-social information,the narrative context alleviates the negative influence of violent characters on players’ aggression.In the threat scenario,the positive effect of the pro-social role on the pro-social behavior of the player was weakened...
