Since the growing of international exchange,translation gains its importance gradually.Meanwhile innovation of translation technology places us in a great age of translation,which is a double-edged sword.However,different from conventional translation,literary translation is unique for it involves human emotion.Therefore,it is not becoming easy for the sake of translation technology.For which,this thesis holds that literary translation should consider of humanity emotion,which is something the translator should do in order to bring a better reading and aesthetic experience in the translation.Cognitive poetics emerged from the 1980 s and put human as the first consideration,which gives us a new direction to literature studies.Freeman as a representative of American cognitive poetics proposed the poetic iconicity based on her hardly studies on linguistics and iconicity on literature,especially the poem.According to her,this theory is combined with the art theory of Susanne K.Langger and philosophy concept of Merleau Ponty,which helped the cognitive poetics to understand literature reading and writing.Literary translation,therefore,mainly concerning these aspects for it also belongs to actions of literature because of what we have mentioned above,the great literature work Hamlet will be applied in this thesis as well as its two famous Chinese translations of Zhu Shenghao and Bian Zhilin.These works will be analyzed under the poetic iconicity in order to find a better way for literary translation in the diagram and metaphor aspects.Through the analysis and comparative of the source text and target texts under the theory,this study mainly discusses the blank verse in the source text for it is the essence of that drama,after that,it is found that we may not understand Zhu Shenghao‘s translation enough,although it looks doesn‘t like poems in our mind because of its form,however,it conveys us more literary information,and it is better than the other translation in spite of readers reading experience.As for Bian Zhilin‘s translation,it is committed that it developed a new way for us to translate literary text,but the reading experience is not such good as the former owing to the absence of the iambic form in Chinese.Based on all studies of that works and combined with many research achievements of scholars related to this topic,many possibilities in diagram and metaphor still need to be explored.
