Percy Shelley and Mary Shelley both chose Prometheus as their prototype.In 1818,Mary Shelley published the novel Frankenstein,or Modern Prometheus,and in 1819 Percy Shelley wrote the poetic drama Prometheus Unbound.The two works come from the same social background,together with their common life experience and literary exchange and influence,which make the two works have similarities in some aspects,such as the pursuit of love and freedom,the love for nature,the concern for morality and society,but there are differences in some aspects.In content,this paper is divided into five parts.The first part is about the prototype of classical myth and the rising and boom of Prometheus in romantic period.Firstly,it briefly introduces and analyzes the image of Prometheus in classical myth.Secondly,it introduces and analyzes the image of Prometheus in 18 th and 19 th century literature.Finally,it briefly explains why the two works of Shelley and his wife should be compared.The second part is the spiritual triumph of Prometheus Unbound.Firstly,it explains that Prometheus in Percy Shelley’s works is a savior with the characteristics of resistance to power.Secondly,it discusses the author’s expectation of calling for women to participate in social transformation in his works.Finally,it analyzes the new world blueprint full of love depicted by the author in his works.The third part is the perplexity and doubt in Frankenstein,which discusses Mary Shelley’s perplexity and anxiety in all aspects as a female novelist,and discusses the author’s views on literary creation.The fourth part is the common writing of the Shelley couple and its significance of the times.Firstly,it introduces the influence of the Shelley couple’s literary reading experience and their experience of traveling in Europe on their creation.Then it discusses the influence of the era background and social thoughts on their creation.Finally,it briefly analyzes the artistic characteristics of the two works.The fifth part is the conclusion,which briefly analyzes and summarizes the reasons for the differences between the two works based on Prometheus,and emphasizes the literary value of the two works.
