"The History of Xianchun Period" is a work of the late Song Dynasty's miscellaneous history. However, different from the general miscellaneous history notes that record more anecdotes, wild histories, the book is mostly written in the court's political codes, the emperor's proclamations or enunciating letters. These contents in the history also has its own value.Nonetheless, the book does not record the name of the writer,so it is a great pity that there are some mistakes in the search for the author's life, friends, writing background and writing purpose.Nevertheless,we can still analyze its value, infer its writing background and purpose according to its content. In addition,I will also collate the differences about the several versions which I had received. So it can be a book with fewer errors than before, and then, readers can reference it.This paper is divided into two parts. The first part is divided into five chapters. In addition to the introduction,it also discusses the completion, content analysis, editions and circulation of "The History of Xianchun Period",as well as its documentary values. In the second chapter, the author, the background, the defects and the characteristics of compilation are analyzed.Although there is no author's name in this book,I speculate based on the previous research results and some clues,I think that the author may be from the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty,as a relic of the southern Song Dynasty,he wrote the book to dispel his thoughts about the old country.Under the complex social environment about the Song Dynasty, the author in the process of writing the book may encounter some obstacles,or lost in the process of circulating,so there are some deficiencies now that can be found by readers. But relative to its inherent, historical and documentary values, its disadvantages cannot obscure its advantages. The third chapter is the content analysis of "The History of Xianchun Period".It mainly be discussed from four aspects, which are the reflection of the political, military, social, economic, cultural and educational situations in Song Dynasty.Inpolitics,Jia Sidao was in power. He formed a clique for selfish gains and eliminated dissenting views. He squeezed other loyal and virtuous scholars through covert operations. He had a false reputation and made no actual contribution, which had a bad influence on the politics.Militarily,at that time,Song is being threatened by the powerful enemy Yuan, the court lacks of the capable generals, there is no certain military measures and the generals can not work together. At the time that the enemies were near the city, most people chose to surrender without national integrity.During the war, some people even lied about the military situation. The shaken belief made the troops of the southern Song Dynasty lost ground one by one and ultimately failed.Economically, the law on public lands during the JingDing period didn't solve the deep-rooted economic crisis fundamentally, and was strongly opposed by the big landowners and the peasant class. In the face of the shortage of military expenditure and the economic decline of the country, the government did not put forward reasonable economic measures. The elimination of paying tributes and the prohibition of concubines to wear jewelries just an ineffectual remedy, the weakness in economic was one of the reasons for the end of the southern Song Dynasty. In terms of culture and education, the book describes three imperial trials, indicating that the imperial court did not underestimate the selection of talents even if the national is facing difficulties. Moreover, most of the top scorers selected by the imperial court played their due role in their positions. This shows that the selection of officials was not controlled by the ministers who were in power, and the culture and education at that time were still commendable, which was extremely rare for the late years of the southern Song Dynasty when the society was in turmoil. The fourth chapter is about the book's versions and situation of the spread, according to the search,I found that the earliest version of the book is not visible. In the kinds of catalogues of the past dynasties, this book is not recorded. The most obvious clues have appeared after the Ming Dynasty, the records in the wenyuan pavilion bibliography are mentioned in the summary of general catalogue of siku quanshu, and the Ming version has been lost.Fortunately, after this book was included in siku quanshu, most writers in the Qing Dynasty realized its values, such as zhangHaipeng,Qian Xizuo and Wu Chongyao, who included this book in their own series.I will introduce the general situation of this book respectively.Since modern times, there have been some books that have included this book, and I will draw a picture of the circulating relations about them. The second part is collation and annotation of the book.It is under the Siku Quanshu, and refer to Zhang Haipeng's Mohai Jinhu,Qian Xizuo's Shoushange series and Wu Chongyao's Yueyatang series. In addition,I also reference Notes of the whole Song Dynasty. Then,it is written in the original time sequence about the book.Wu Chongyao had some comments of the book,I will attach it as an appendix at the end of the text.In the conclusion,I will make a simple summary of the analysis and proofreads of the book.
