Information Expression In Simulated Consecutive Interpreting

At present,the soft power of a country plays an important role in international relations in the trend of economic globalization and political multi-polarization.As an important way of cultural transmission,also a representation of soft power,consecutive interpreting of documentaries with Chinese characteristics is an important way to introduce Chinese culture to the world.In this context,this practice report takes CCTV documentary "modern wonders of China" as the material to carry out the simulated consecutive interpreting practice.This documentary consists of two parts from the perspective of interpreting practice content.The first part is the statement by commentator,which mainly introduces some background knowledge.In this part,the expression way of information is formal by using the written language.The second part is the interview of the related person,who will use many oral words to express the information.This documentary covers many idioms and much engineering knowledge.In addition,the interviewees' information is complex and easy to be omitted and their speech is colloquial and not clear in logic.From the characteristics of information expression,redundancy and incoherence of information are typical.In the process of consecutive interpreting,the interpreter,as a bridge of information transmission and communication,needs to adapt to the culture and expression habits of the target language and makes the information transmitted fully and effectively in the process of interpreting,on the premise of conveying the information integrally of the speaker of the source language.Based on the above analysis,this paper mainly discusses how to deal with the problems of redundancy,pretermission of interpreting and incoherence in the process of information expression.Through the author's interpreting practice and reflection,the author summarizes the corresponding solutions,including: compression and integration strategy adapted to the context,free and extended interpreting strategy adapted to the real meaning of the speaker,labeling the logical words and sentence restructuring strategy adapted to the language structure.It is hoped that this paper can provide some reference for solving the problems in the expression of information in consecutive interpreting for the same kind of documentary.
