This is an E-C translation report of Hints for Lovers, which was written by Arnold Haultain,a British writer. His daughter Emma was the reason for the author to write this book in which topics about gender relations were under discussion like men and women, kisses, love affair, marriage and so on.Many descriptions in the book are instructive for our everyday contacts with the other gender. The Skopos Theory is the guiding theory of the translation to make the target readers fully understand the original text and its educational meaning. This paper is made up of five parts. The first part is a general introduction that briefly goes over the author, the original text and the significance of the translation project. The second part is a brief description about the translation process. The third part focuses on the translation difficulties. The forth part, also the most important part,is about the analysis of examples based on the Skopos Theory.According to the characteristics of the original text, the analysis goes from four aspects, that is,complex clause structure,English parallel structure, figurative sentences and cultural vacancy. As to the clause structure,four-character structure and division are adopted;for English parallel structure, parallelism in Chinese and parallel pair are used;as for figurative sentences, finding an equivalent and using substitutions are the main methods;and to make clear the cultural vacancy, the writer uses annotation and preservation under the guidance of the Skopos Theory. And the last part offers a conclusion as of academic weakness, personal experiences and humble suggestions for further improvement. The guiding theory contains three rules: the skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule.As the primary principle of the theory, the skopos rule demands that the purpose of the translation behavior determines the whole process of the translation behavior;the coherence rule points out that the translation text must be readable and acceptable;the fidelity rule indicates that there should be inter-textual coherence between the original text and the translation one. That is,the translation version should be faithful to the original text in a degree.
