On Individual Emotional Expression Of Oil Painting Creation

Art creation is not a presentation of one single emotion but a complex of various emotions that fluctuate.The artist’s emotion has crucial influence to the artworks,which can only express deeper thoughts with the integration of personal feelings.Whether in the eastern or the western environment,an impressive art always involves strong emotion of the creator.This paper intends to discuss the emotional expression in paintings in four parts.The first chapter focuses on the significance of individual and the definition of emotion as it presented in art.The second chapter analyzes the reflections of personal emotions in traditional Chinese paintings and modern Western paintings.The third chapter introduces the continuous experiments of materials and emotional expression in my own practice of oil painting which leads to a critical thinking of the performance of feelings in art in the fourth chapter.This thesis intends to conclude my artistic practice and my awareness of emotional expression in the three years of studies at graduate school.It analyzes and studies the integration of emotional fluctuation and art,exploring the methods to perform feelings--as emotional expression is a critical challenge for me when making art.
